Under the Umbrella began as a pilot program the summer of 2007. Prior to starting the pilot program, I worked in several areas, including the public and private school sectors. I have been a special educator for over 10 years and am currently in private practice. I have always envisioned a school in which children are able to receive the appropriate services and where the expectations are high and the children and their families are successful in all areas of development. On a professional and personal level, I continue to educate myself and others by reaching out to the community and networking with other professionals who can offer innovative interventions and knowledge.

We believe that all children can learn. Growth and success are inevitable, using a variety of teaching methods, patience, and perseverance. Under the Umbrella offers unique individualized and group programming to ensure that all children enrolled have equal opportunity to experience positive results in a family centered environment. Under the Umbrella wishes to provide services that are tailored for the individual student, but will allow for generalization of acquired knowledge in other areas of a child's life.

Under the Umbrella works closely with speech, occupational, and music therapists to offer a comprehensive education for each child. Each classroom is designed for students to work independently and in groups. All teachers are trained in various areas of child development. The role of the teacher is to facilitate the learning process including language, social, communicative, and emotional development.

Parents are welcome to schedule current speech and OT services to be provided on campus at no additional charge. If you would like an OT or Speech evaluation one can be provided for you for additional fees.

Included in our tuition are group speech and language therapy interventions, music therapy and sensory integration practices using our sensory lab.

Learning Service Plans- include quality over quantity goals. This means we choose a few goals at a time until they are mastered. They are then transferred to our maintenance goal sheet and additional goals are added.

We work on developmentally appropriate skills

We design a Learning Service Plan that includes parents, teachers and current support specialists.

We focus on social, emotional, communicative, and academic growth by focusing on three domains: communication, social, and academic annual goals

We work with both non-verbal and verbal children and use a variety of language acquisition programs to gain more language.

We will have a music therapist, speech pathologist, and an occupational therapist that will consult with us on a regular basis and implement programming

We welcome children who are not potty trained.

Children will receive group instruction and 1:1 instruction on a daily basis
